Hair Tips for Curly Hair
Curly hair tends to be drier that other hair types. As a general rule it requires more care. Following are some tips for curly hair:
- Use a shampoo and conditioner that is specifically geared towards curly hair.
- Limit shampooing your hair to no more than twice a week. Shampooing strips your hair of its natural oils.
- DO condition every time you are in the shower. Choose a conditioner that leaves your hair feeling good to you. You don't want hair that was washed and still feels like you have product left or leaves it feeling dry even if it isn't.
- To detangle your hair, in the shower use your fingers to begin the untangling then finish with a wide toothed comb starting from the end going up finishing at the root of the hair.
- Avoid using narrow toothed combs and brushes, use wide-toothed combs instead which has less of a tendency to cause breakage and frizzing.
- Avoid playing with your hair or touching it as much as possible, the more friction that occurs on your hair will cause it to tangle and/or frizz.
- Don't use too much product. With a styling milk, gel or mousse, put some into your palm and rub your palms together. The product will warm up as you rub and distribute better by not 'globbing' onto one spot. You want to evenly distribute the product through your hair, so you will need to use more if you have longer hair.
- Detoxify your hair about once a month. Your hair is one of the most absorbing and dirtiest parts of your body. Think of the smog, pollution, germs from sneezes and coughs, smoke, etc. that you encounter every day. All of this can get trapped in your hair. If you smoke or someone around you does, your hair will trap and smell like smoke. So even if you choose to live with the frizz and not use anything in your hair, please use a detoxifier once in a while. It will help your hair.
